Charting My Plant's Growth with Common Core ELA Integration.....50 Pages!

Charting my Plant's Growth isn't just about plants. In fact, it is about plants, graphing or charting, letter writing, vocabulary, and ELA integration into your science unit on plants.

This is what the packet includes:

4 weekly prediction pages - the student write a prediction at the beginning of the week when they plant their seed. They will write a prediction and draw a picture of what they think their plant's growth and appearance will have changed by the end of the week.

4 weekly observation pages - these look similar to the prediction pages; however, the students fill these out at the end of the week by writing and then drawing a picture of their plant. They can place them together to see if their prediction was close and compare them.

My Plant Journal Book - This is composed of several pages. This journal includes a cover that you can use if you want to bind or staple their journals. Their are enough journal entries for 4 weeks or 20 school days. The students observe their plant each day and write a short journal entry about it.

4 exit slips - at the end of the week, students use their journal entires to summarize the growth of their plant. These can be used as formative assessments and practice prior to the final, summative assessment.

Vocabulary Terms (these area all graphing and charting words) - The students should learn these throughout your unit. There are several pages of terms, and about 5 quizes and a summative vocabulary quiz.

A summative assignment to give at the end of the four weeks. The students use their journal entries to summarize the changes in their plant's growth over the past 4 weeks. They will write a letter to a botanist. They may use a dictionary to edit for correct spelling, and should use all parts of a friendly letter.

There are a few styles of the summative assessment to choose from. You can pick which letter format suits your students.

A scoring guide/rubric is included for the summative assessment piece.

4 pages of graph and chart templates. Choose the one that you think will work the best for your students.

Hopefully you will find this packet helpful if you will be planting anything this year with your students.

You can also use this to supplement a unit you may be doing on graphing or charting, as their are many pages that coinside.
