Get a “Spook-tacular” Jump on the Season!
Hi everyone! It’s Krista again with another set of clip art for you! I don’t know about you, but I am a huge fan of autumn and all that goes with it- pumpkins, sweatshirt weather and of course, Halloween! Especially being a teacher, Halloween is a pretty exciting holiday in my life and those of my students. I love that first holiday of the school year and the festive spin it brings to my lessons and activities.
At the risk of getting “ahead of the season” I wanted to give you one of my newest sets of clip art “Spooky Night.” This way, you can jumpstart your lesson creations with this spooky-themed art. This set is packed with 22 images: 14 full color images and 8 digital stamps (black and white line drawings). The colorful clips are perfect for creating vibrant center materials, Promethean or Smart Board lessons and the line drawings work great on worksheets and handouts.
One of the reasons why I started making my own clip art was because I loved the instructional possibilities of every set. There are so many ways that the images can be used and transformed by different teachers. I want to leave you with a few suggestions for using this clip art and would love for you to leave comments with your own plans for the set!
For the little learners: Arrange the different black line images on a single page. Allow students to choose and cut out different images for a “Spooky Setting.” Students can glue them on construction paper and color in the background. This would be a great starting point for some descriptive writing- as they write about all the sounds and sights of their scene. It is also a great connection to “setting” in stories and discussing similarities between spooky settings in books.
For older learners: Print out color copies of the different ghosts and laminate them. Hot glue them onto large popsicle sticks. Give students a spooky scenario such as “Two ghosts are having a disagreement about who is scarier. One ghost insists that he is the spookiest ghost on Halloween. Another ghost believes that his scary howling is the best. Write a dialogue between the two ghosts as they try to persuade their audience who is the scariest ghost of Halloween!” Students will practice writing dialogue, persuasive writing and get to act out the scene with their ghost sticks!
